GPS Tracker Settings
Device key
This is a unique 13-digit ID assigned by InstaMapper to every device. You can allocate
a new device key by logging into your account, clicking on
"Devices" and then clicking on
"Add a new device".
Send every
Use this option to control the frequency with which positions are sent to InstaMapper.
The value can be as low as 5 seconds. However, to send position updates every 5 seconds,
your phone needs to be 1) moving reasonably fast and 2) be tracked by someone using the web
interface. The minimum update interval is 30 seconds for devices that are not being tracked online
and 60 seconds for stationary devices.
Buffer size
Position buffering is useful for storing positions in device memory when your phone is out of
coverage. Buffered positions are sent when a data connection is re-established. Up to 100
positions can be buffered.
Additional iPhone options
iPhone client has two additional options -- unit selection (should be
self-explanatory) and target accuracy (minimum position accuracy
needed to record a position). Accuracy values
marked with "(GPS)" require a GPS fix. We recommend setting the slider to "600 ft (GPS)"
in most cases. If your iPhone is not GPS-enabled, or if you live in a
big city, try the "2000 ft" or "600 ft" settings. Non-GPS-derived
positions do not contain speed, heading, or altitude.
