iPhone 3G Troubleshooting
The app is stuck in "Locating..." state
This means that the tracking software cannot determine your location
with sufficient accuracy. This can happen for several
reasons:
- You are indoors. GPS signals are frequently too weak inside of
buildings.
- You are outdoors but the sky is obstructed. GPS receivers work
best when you have a clear view of the sky.
- You are not waiting long enough. Occasionally, locating your
position can take a minute or two even when you are outside.
- Position accuracy threshold is set too low.
As of version 1.1, you can adjust the accuracy threshold for recorded
positions.
If acquiring a position takes too long, move the accuracy slider
to the left. At the leftmost setting ("Any") the app will accept
the first available location -- this usually takes only a few seconds,
but the accuracy may be on the order of 1 km. Accuracy values
that have "(GPS)" next to them require a GPS fix; others allow for
cell-tower and wifi triangulation. We recommend the option "600 ft (GPS)"
for most owners of 3G iPhones, and "2000 ft" or "600 ft" for those of
you who have an older iPhone or live in a big city with tall buildings.
I registered but didn't receive the activation email
We send out activation emails immediately after you register. If you
don't receive the message within a few minutes, it's probably because
- Your ISP classified our email as spam. Check your Spam folder.
- Your ISP filtered our mail altogether.
- You specified the wrong email address when you registered.
In these cases, we recommend that you create a new account using
a gmail / hotmail / yahoo email address. Those should work
100% of the time. You may want to
delete the old account
before registering again.
You can also resend the activation code
here.

The web site shows my location a few blocks / miles away from
where I actually am
That's because GPS locations are not always accurate. This is
true of all GPS devices, not just the iPhone.
